“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change” — Wayne Dyer

Growing up, I always thought you needed to be born with natural talent to achieve greatness in life. What I failed to recognize is that talent is only a small part of success and that being gifted on its own is never enough. It took me a long time to figure out that instead everything starts with your mind. And what I wish someone had told me sooner is that with the right attitude, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. In today’s article, I’m going to be sharing the 8 things that have helped me develop that winning mentality:

1. Passion: Everything starts with passion. If you do what you love, I can assure you that you will never fail. Try to figure out the things that set your soul on fire. What makes you tick? Once you’ve discovered what that is, find a way to express that purpose.

2. Know your ‘why’: As Simon Sinek said “people don’t buy WHAT you do; they buy WHY you do it”. If you want to be successful, it is essential you understand the purpose of what you are doing — your ‘why’. Knowing your ‘why’ is what will keep you fighting when you so desperately want to give up and will help you overcome any obstacles along the way.

3. Have clear defined goals: Setting goals is essential when following the path to success. Writing down your daily or monthly goals on a piece of paper will enable you to stay focused as well as have a clear vision of what you have to do.

4. Consistency is key: Instead of chasing perfection, seek for consistency. Small daily actions are the key to successful long term results.

5. Fail fast & fail forward: Dont’ be afraid of failure, embrace it. In order to be successful, you have to be willing to take risks and make mistakes. You just have to accept it is part of the process so learn how to make the most of it instead. Learn from your past mistakes and move on as fast as possible.

6. Visualize the process: Whenever I start a project, I anticipate the end result. If you believe you can, then you’re already halfway there.

7. Stop making excuses: Successful people take responsibility for their actions — good or bad. They don’t make excuses and they don’t dwell on the past, instead they focus on making results.

8. Trust yourself: People will doubt you, people will confuse you and people will question you. But as long as you have faith in what you are doing, nothing will be able to get in your way.

9. The ‘100% rule’: My father always says: “If you do something, give it your all or don’t do it at all”. Following the rule enabled me to aim high and set ambitious goals for myself.
